Happy New Year! Why I'm not making a resolution...
Happy 2019 friends!
We are already 7 days into the New Year and today is the first Monday of the New Year! Our day started with a 2 Hour Delay for school since we got some snow, sleet and rain last night. I kind of feel like that's how this year has started for me....on delay. You know what? That's okay! Or, at least that is what I keep telling myself! :)
For Christmas I received a gift from my hubby that I'm so excited to use all year and knew right away that I wanted to share it with all of you!
The Inscribe the Word One-Year Scripture Writing Journal

A great idea that Erika gives on her website is:
Choose one word and one bible verse for the year to focus on and/or be intentional with.
I knew right away that I wanted to do this instead of making a New Year's Resolution. My main reason? I NEED and WANT an even more meaningful and intimate relationship with Jesus.
By no means do I think that having a New Year's Resolution is a bad thing. Any idea, concept, or plan that moves us in a positive direction, as long as it's for the right reasons-is a great thing! If you have made a resolution of some sort or have a plan for the New Year, I would love to hear it-so please comment on this post. Sharing with one another is a great process for learning in my opinion.
So, here we go:
My Word: Power
My Verse: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgement.
-2 Timothy 1:7
I spent some time praying about what my word should be and then searched for verses with that word. Being surprised by God should never come as a surprise, but it usually does anyway. I was still unsure once I had chosen my word. Making decisions can be very difficult for me. I tend to overthink, go back and forth, and question every little thing surrounding whatever it is I'm thinking about or deciding. So, there I am, looking through verses, when I saw 2 Timothy 1:7, and I knew. I knew that God had laid the word power on my heart. A feeling of peace just seemed to fall over me and it was like He was saying, "Trina, you need to know that I'm where your power comes from and stop being afraid."
Moments like that, when you know God is speaking to you and you feel His presence wash over you-those are treasures. They are glimpses of what's to come when we spend eternity with Him. The funny thing is, I thought it was me who had led me to getting this journal, and then choosing to follow this idea, etc. Yes, I saw the journal on Pinterest, I told my husband it would make a great gift, and being the awesome man he is, he gave it to me for Christmas. But, a woman doing what God has called her to do in they way of her ministry, by providing materials like this journal, a situation that led me to finding her website, and what has been happening in my life that found me searching-that was all God. He's always working in our lives.
We tend to have to "look back" to understand "the now".
Friends, a New Year to some, is a time of new beginnings and a fresh start. Or, to some its a continuation of what was or is. However you look at it, remember that time is a temporal boundary. Jesus-He is outside of time-He is eternal and we are made new because of Him.
We don't need a New Year for a rebirth or renewing-we only need Jesus.
I pray that you know how very much you are loved by Jesus and that His plans for your life are greater than you can imagine. As we move through this New Year, may we take each day as it comes, remembering that the world will tell us to rush, do more, plan more, be more and all the while Jesus is saying, "Be still, and know that I am God."-Psalm 46:10.
So, I encourage you to take time to be still, spending time with the One who loves us more than anyone else ever will. I don't know what that looks like in your day to day life, how you schedule it or commit to it. But, I have no doubt that if we do, we will be forever changed with hearts on fire for Him.
If you'd like to follow my written daily scripture verses, I'll be posting them starting tomorrow on my Facebook page,"The T Word". Also-subscribe to my blog if you haven't already done so and stay in touch with me!
