Preparing Our Hearts for Christmas

Spending time with Jesus is my favorite thing to do and yet most of the time I get pulled in other directions. This is the case even more so now that the Christmas Season is upon us. There is shopping, decorating, baking, cooking, cleaning, family gatherings, and the list goes on.....

So, how do we prepare our hearts for the whole reason for the season? The birth of our Savior, Jesus. We schedule it. And when we get off track, we get back on ASAP. We make Him our priority. Nurturing our relationship with Jesus will pour over into every area of our lives. In this busy season where more is expected of us, it will be absolutely necessary to have Him at the center of our hearts and minds.

It doesn't need to be complicated or time consuming. But, setting aside 20 minutes everyday to read God's Word, do a devotion, or write a verse from scripture, is all it takes to set our hearts and minds on what really matters. Then throughout your days, when everything seems to be going wrong or time seems to be moving faster than you'd like, or when you're feeling overwhelmed and just can't take one more thing, you'll remember that time you spent with Jesus and what He said to you, and you'll know you aren't alone.

Time with Jesus changes our mindset. It changes our heart. It changes our life.

Jesus is what we really need. Jesus gives us what we lack. Jesus makes the impossible, possible.

I don't want to put Him on my "later" list. He needs to be first. There is NOTHING more important. The enemy and the world...they have a way of sneaking in and taking over and making other things seem more important. I will not give in to these lies. There will be times where we get off track, let's not beat ourselves up over it! Let's jump back in and keep moving forward. He hasn't called us to be perfect. But He is calling us...so we need to answer.

That "answering" will look different for all of us. Some of us enjoy reading, some writing, some coloring, some praying and maybe you like a little of all of those. It doesn't matter really and it doesn't matter if it's in the morning or in the evening or in the middle of the day. Or maybe you break up the time throughout the day. Whatever works for your schedule, do that. Don't worry about what anyone else does or how others say you should do something. God made you, so He knows what works for you. What does matter, is doing it. Taking the time to spend with Jesus...that's all that matters.

I've seen some great ideas floating around on Facebook, and Pinterest is full of great ideas too!

Here is what I'm choosing to do over the next few weeks:

I would love to hear from you! Share in the comments what you do to spend time with Jesus and if you are doing something special during Advent.

Praying for peace and joy for you and yours during this Holiday Season.

With love,
